The Enid founder and keyboardist Robert John Godfrey will play his last live shows with the band on April in the UK and Japan.
Godfrey was diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer's in 2014 but has continued to write and tour with the band. He will still work with the band running their fan club and will attend some of the live shows in that capacity, as well as making some guest appearances.
Robert says: “Ideals are like the stars that guide the mariner. I have lived the life I wanted to live, and the one that suited me best.” He goes on to say: "The time has come for me to cross the footlights and devote myself into building our wonderful fan club, The Enidi, into a force to be reckoned with. I still have a few things up my sleeve before the sun sets upon my life's work."
Robert intends to spend some time in Germany and he will write his autobiography in conjunction with recording and his fan club duties.
Zachary Bullock will take over keyboard duties, joined by Joe Payne who will also perform keys
where needed.
Dates in the UK:
- Friday 18th March - Bristol, The Redgrave Theatre
- Saturday 2nd April - London, Cadogan Hall
This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the band's debut In The Region of The Summer Stars. To celebrate they will perform two shows in Japan in April, which will both feature Godfrey. Further club dates follow later this year.
The Enid release Dust (2016) the third album in their Trilogy, which started with Journey's End in 2010, followed by Invicta in 2012.
