Leprous - New Album + New Video

Acclaimed Norwegian Progsters Leprous are soon to release their much anticipated new album Coal (2013) on May 20th, 2013 in Europe and May 28th, 2013 in North America via InsideOutMusic.

Now, the band is revealing the cover artwork for Coal (2013), conceived no other than acclaimed American artist Jeff Jordan, who already took care of the previous album release "Bilateral" and also worked for bands like The Mars Volta. Here is what Leprous had to say about the artwork:

"The artwork for this album was a hard nut to crack. We wanted something dark, melancholic but with a distinct character. We tried several solutions without finding the perfect supplement for the music, before we decided to contact Jeff Jordan once again. Jeff immediately had wonderful ideas that we decided to pursue. The artwork of "Coal" is in my opinion the most iconic we've had so far."

In other news, Leprous just shot a video-clip for the new album's track "The Cloak" and, most suitably for the album's theme, the video was shot in a mine and should be launched around May. Here is a comment by the band about the shooting:

Mr Averell - New Album

Avant Garde music aficionados across the globe are excited about the forthcoming second album by Dutch visual sound artist René van Commenée under the guise Mr Averell titled Gridlock (2013). Van Commenée is known in The Netherlands for his music (sound) art objects, theatrical performances and soundtracks for theatre, fireworks spectacles and film. Over the years he has worked with many acknowledged musicians around the world and became well-known by fans of Van der Graaf Generator through his percussion performances with VDGG member David Jackson. About ten years after their first duo-performances they released the well-received critically acclaimed album 'Batteries Included', a collection of their live recordings. In the same scene, René performed on albums by VDGG's Judge Smith as percussionist, drummer and vocalist.

“Mr Averell is a one-off and hard to classify. Is he a sensitive singer-songwriter, a rock music wildman, and avant garde performance artist or a musical clown? Maybe he's a little of each, and his music is always surprising and full of interest.” - Judge Smith

Gridlock (2013) is the second Mr Averell album and features guest performances by Mike Garson (David Bowie), David Jackson, Hugh Banton and Judge Smith (Van der Graaf Generator), John Ellis (Peter Gabriel, Peter Hammill, The Stranglers), Lene Lovich, along with Stuart Gordon (Peter Hammill, Peter Gabriel, Massive Attack), Dyane Donck (Daisy Bell), Martijn Alsters, Willem Tanke, Ninca Leece, Tammo Heikens and Lisa Weiss.

In support of the release of 'Gridlock' plans for Mr Averell to perform in Europe are currently in the works. In closing René has this to impart to his listeners, “It is important to know that 'Gridlock' is intended as an album and not just a collection of songs. I would suggest really playing the album from start to finish and taking the time to listen and let it sink in. Everything's made for this purpose in the first place, the order of songs and even the pauses in between them are composed. This makes it very hard in these download-times, this album should probably be downloaded as one track.”

Tracklist:
1. Lock
2. Break The Mirror
3. Kiss The Girl!
4. Deliberately
5. Boxes
6. The Fear Of Dreaming
7. 100 Presents
8. Babel
9. Gridlock
10. Sightseeings
11. Unlock
12. Rideehoo!!

You can hear the track 'Deliberately' on our Podcast #17 HERE.

Magma - New DVD

After  the success of the DVDs EPOK 1-2-3-4, published in 2006 and 2007, the jazz club Le Triton again welcomed Magma in June 2011. This was for a  nine concerts cycle to complete the DVD series "Myths & Legends " .

EPOK V (2013) not only includes pieces from 1971, 1977 and 1978 but also Félicité Thösz (2012), the latest Magma release, heard here in a version prior to the recording of the album. There are, in addition, 20 minutes of unpublished music.

Antoine Fafard - New Album

The second solo album by composer and bass player Antoine Fafard, Occultus Tramitis (2013), was released digitally on May 15 and will be on CD June 1, 2013. Featuring the contributions of a number of jazz-rock legends including Terry Bozzio (Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa), Jerry Goodman (Mahavishnu Orchestra), Gavin Harrison (King Crimson, Porcupine Tree), Scott Henderson (Tribal Tech), Simon Phillips (Jeff Beck, Toto), Chad Wackerman (Allan Holdsworth, Frank Zappa) and Dave Weckl (Chick Corea, Mike Stern), 'Occultus Tramitis' encompasses 11 tracks presenting almost an hour of exciting new music.

“Working on Antoines project was a real treat...his compositions and playing made it a unique experience. Both challenging and joyful at the same time! He put together a great team of players and I only wish we could have been playing in the same room!” - Jerry Goodman

The music on Occultus Tramitis (2013) differs between the tracks, and the fusion of influences that characterizes Antoine's music means it doesn't fall easily into a single style or genre. However, the album was composed as a complete work. Melodic aspects are beautifully realized by Jerry Goodman, who is featured on more than half of the tracks among odd time signatures, multiple modulations and rhythmical illusions. There are exceptional performances from all Antoine's collaborators, including spectacular solos.

Occultus Tramitis (2013) is an independent release presenting exciting and powerful new music for any fan of instrumental jazz-rock, progressive and fusion music.

Keith Emerson - Campaign For Documentary

Prog Rock Doc is trying to complete a Documentary on Keith Emerson's life.

"We've been working on this project now for several years, and have a completion date set for Keith's Birthday in November. How we get there, and how complete the final documentary is comes down to the results of this campaign.

We are excited to present to you the unique opportunity to be part of this project by buying one of the features via our campaign! Join the project from Fan all the way up to Executive Producer!

For over forty years, Keyboard virtuoso Keith Emerson has been entertaining the masses with his particular brand of Prog Rock. During that time he has filled out stadia's across the world.

Pictures of an Exhibitionist is the name of Keith's auto-biography written back in 2003, after he underwent surgery on his hands. This documentary adaptation goes back to interview the characters in his life from his childhood to today.
Keith Emerson played an important role in the alternative rock and roll scene that rose out of the ashes of the popularity of "radio friendly" groups like the Beatles. Emerson Lake and Palmer, dominated that scene from 1970 - 1977 catching the vibe of a generation wanting more than the latest riff and brought back a renaissance of classical  music among Emerson's orchestral jazz/rock/fusion works. He continues to push the boundaries and is now composing work for Orchestras across the world."

Fabio Zuffanti - New Solo Album

In June, Fabio Zuffanti, man responsible for bands like La Maschera Di Cera, Höstsonaten and Finisterre will begin the recordings of his new solo album at Hilary Studio of Genoa with the support of Rossano Villa, sound engineer and co-arranger.

In conjunction with the album will also be released new book by Zuffanti. A sort of diary written almost daily that tell of the genesis and making of the record, the twenty-year music of Fabio, thoughts related to the everyday's life, encounters, memories, past and future projects, letters to someone or anyone.
